Our World in Web3

A Metaverse Recap from the Davos World Economic Forum 2022

Convening in the historic town of Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, approximately 2,500 world leaders came together this past May for the first time in two years to address key global issues, including the environment, the war in Ukraine, and of course, the present and future state of technology. Speaking to the key theme of “History at a Turning Point,” this year’s World Economic Forum provided a much-needed catalyst for conversations that will affect us today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.

The events and discussions this year in Davos were as broad in scope as they were ambitious in vision, and included groundbreaking discourse on the future of web3 and the incipient metaverse, among other topics ranging from blockchain technology to cryptocurrency. During my time at Davos I was–as I always am–struck not just by the natural beauty of the surroundings, but by the fecundity of ideas and thought-leadership I encountered at nearly every turn.

I’m so fortunate to have been chosen to speak at two events this year, the first of which was the “Metaverse Talks” series, where I spoke with David Bundi from PWC about our mission to build a better world through innovative technology, in particular, by using web3 to assist individuals and communities in their real lives through SuperWorld

The second panel, “Future of Cities in Davos,” was hosted by Tony Cho of Future of Cities, and Risto Kuulasmaa, Janna Salokangas of Finnish Flow, and featured a stimulating discussion with, among others, the inimitable Deepak Chopra MD.

I found my discussion with Dr. Chopra over how to improve the real world through metaverse technology to be genuinely illuminating, and was inspired by both his enthusiasm for what we are building at SuperWorld, and by his (now universally recognized!) generosity of spirit.

Set against a backdrop of global cooperation in times of armed conflict and a growing crisis of climate, food and energy, my visit to Davos and the World Economic Forum was inordinately valuable to how I envision the future of SuperWorld, but also how I envision the future of the real world. That is to say, I’m optimistic. I returned home from Davos invigorated and remain undaunted in my belief that what we do now to build the metaverse can positively affect, in a very fundamental way, the economic, environmental, and creative trajectory of our lives here on Earth.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in SuperWorld 🌎❤️ soon!
